Movie Reviews: The Amazing Spider-Man
The Amazing Spider-Man is a re-boot of Spider-Man movies. Its origin story differs from the 2002 Spider-Man movie.

It stars Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Emma Stone as his love interest, Gwen Stacy. Gwen is the daughter of the police captain, who thinks that Spider-Man is a menace and is out to arrest him. It's the typical story of father disapproves of daughter's boyfriend, boyfriend tries to win over the father.

I thought the Lizard was a disappointing villain. I thought the relationship between Dr. Connors and Peter Parker was not well written. I liked their relationship better in Spider-Man 2/3.

I would say that overall, I liked Tobey Maguire better than Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker. I felt like Andrew Garfield was just being himself.

Gwen Stacy > Mary Jane Watson.

Overall, I thought the movie lacked focus and warmth. I saw it in 3D and I wasn't impressed by it. That part was extremely disappointing considering that it's Spider-Man. Come on, it's Spider-Man swinging through the city! Lets show off some of that 3D!

I give this movie a 3.5/5 stars.

Also, there is an extra scene after the initial ending credits.

*************** SPOILER ALERT *****************

Gwen Stacy > Mary Jane Watson. Gwen is a science student, the top of her class, according to her. She also works at Oscorp as a tour guide. Being the police captain's daughter, she also presents a tough exterior, sometimes bordering on cold. I think that's partially due to Emma Stone's personality. With Mary Jane, I always felt like she was going to cry at any moment. Gwen also makes herself useful by preparing the antidote to counteract the gas that the lizard planned to release on the city to turn everybody into lizards.

In the 2002 movie, there was a very obvious theme, "With great power comes great responsibility." I didn't feel that this movie had any focused theme. In the 2002 Spider-Man, Uncle Ben's message to Peter resonated with him and help him because the person and superhero that he was. I thought Martin Sheen played a great uncle Ben in this movie but I never felt that connection with him and Peter. Peter Parker in this movie also didn't have any close friends. Having the main character be so disconnected with people around him made me feel that the movie lacked warmth. Even Flash Thompson, the guy that bullies Peter at the beginning of the movie, comes off more likable than Peter when he gives Peter his condolences for the death of his uncle.

I also liked Captain Stacy, played by Denis Leary. I felt that in the end, he did respect Spider-Man. But again, I felt a disconnect between him and Peter.

Another thing I liked better about the first 3 Spider-Man movies was the score. I didn't even notice the music in this movie.

That's about it. The move is OK. Could have been a lot better.
