Movie Reviews: The Dark Knight Rises
"The Dark Knight Rises" is the third installment of the current Batman movie series and is the best of the three, in my opinion. I think that is probably an unpopular opinion.

I liked "Batman Begins," but I thought it seemed too short because the original story took up too much of the movie. Most people will disagree with me, but I thought "The Dark Knight" was self-indulgent. The Joker was nothing more than an attention whore. Don't get me wrong, Heath Ledger played the part well, but it was so drawn out that it got monotonous.

There were no great performances in "The Dark Knight Rises" but overall, the movie seemed to have a story to tell and I wanted to see that story. The villain, Bane, was quite a boring character. I would probably say he's the weakest part of the movie, but the movie isn't really about him. Catwoman is also in this movie and is better than the Bane character, although, I was never fully convinced about her motivations. The story continues with where the "The Dark Knight" left off. Batman is now considered a criminal after taking the fall for Harvey Dent. Batman must now win back the trust of the city, if he decides to return at all (we all know he will), when the city is faced with a dangerous criminal (Bane).

I like stories with good character development and there are several characters that develop throughout the movie. I thought the villains could have been better but for having so many central characters, I thought they did a good job in putting together a coherent story. I give the movie a slightly better than 4/5 stars.

********* SPOILER ALERT **********

I thought this movie could have been called "The Robin Rises," because I really liked the development of the Robin character. Robin (in costume), isn't actually in this movie but the character that will become Robin plays a very prominent role.
